Guilin is situated in the northeastern part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in south China, covers an area of over 500 square kilometers. Its name means "forest of Sweet Osmanthus", owing to the large number of fragrant Sweet Osmanthus trees located in the city. The city is renowned for its history, culture and especially the unique scenery. A distinctive karst landmass is the reason behind Guilin’s fabulous landscape that is characterized by green mountains, sparkling waters, strange caves and statuesque monoliths. Famous scenic areas in Guilin are Li River, Elephant Trunk Hill, Folded Brocade Hill (Diecai Hill Park), Whirlpool Hill (Fubo Hill), Reed Flute Cave, Seven Star Cave, Longsheng Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces (Longji Rice Terraces).
