5-Day Guizhou Sisters' Meal Festival

Tour Overview
Sister Festival, held in Shidong,is the Miao people's busiest time of the year, and it is an opportunity for Miao youth living along the middle reaches of the Qingjiang River to choose their dates. During the festival, Miao people eat "Sister Rice, " dress up, dance, watch bullfights, compete in a canoeing contest and sing. Trip to Shidong, you will experience many things about this festival.

Day 01, Arrive in Guiyang / Kaili (D)
Fly to Guiyang in the morning. After Lunch we drive 2.5 hrs to Kaili, capital of Southeast Guizhou prefecture (Qian dong nan). Em route, we take a stop at  Shiqiao Miao Village. In a paper making workshop there you will see how the paper is hand-made in a traditional way. You can even try to make piece of paper under master's instuction. Transfer to Kaili after the visit.

Day 02, Kaili / Shidong / Zhenyuan (B, L, D)
In the morning, drive 1.5-2 hours to Shidong, a small Miao village situated on the banks of the Qingshui River. You will see local craftsmen making silverwares. Then transfer to catch up the opening ceremony of Sisters' Meal Festival (aka Sister Rice Festival). After lunch, we will proceed to Zhenyuan (1.5 hours’ drive), a tranquil ancient town hidden in east Guizhou, surrounded by mountains and rivers. Miao People are main inhabitants. 

Day 03, Zhenyuan / Shidong / Kaili (B, L, D)
Visit Qinglong Cave (aka Black Dragon Cave),which was built into the precipitous Zhonghe Mountain during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is the largest ancient Architecture remnants of Guizhou, including multi-storied pavilions, temples, shrines, palaces. Confucianist, Taoist and Buddhist temples were put together here represents a combination of the 3 beliefs. Drive back to Shidong to attend the Sisters' Meal Festival; return to Kaili in the evening and stay in Kaili. 

Day 04, Kaili / Leishan/Kaili (B, L, D)
A short drive from Kaili along the Bala River brings us to Langde – a Long Skirt Miao village with traditional wooden houses and waterwheels. The views along the road are limestone pinnacles set against terraced rice fields and picturesque villages. A traditional Miao Singing & Dancing performance by local villagers will be included. Then we drive to Paika Village to see how the Miao people's most important musical instrument - Lusheng (Bamboo pipes) is made. On the way back, visit Datang Short Skirt Miao Village. People in the village build their barns on the water to prevent fire expending and rat eating the grains.

Day 05, Kaili / Guiyang (B)
After breakfast, visit Ethnic Minority Museum before transferring to Guiyang Airport for the flight to your next destination.
