Transport in Sichuan

In China, there is a word goes that:'It's harder to get into Sichuan than to get into the heaven'. It indicates that traveling to Sichuan is very difficult in the old days. But now tour Sichuan has become convenient because the Chinese government have invested a lot and improved the transportation of Sichuan. A complete transport network of air, rail, road, and water has been connected with Chengdu, the capital city as its hub. It is now the major transport juncture of southwest China.

Air

There are ten airports in Sichuan Province. Shuangliu International Airport in Chengdu being one of the four largest airports in China in terms of the number of flights and passengers carried. The other nine airports are domestic and located in Luzhou City, Yibin City, Dazhou City, Xichang City, Nanchong City, Mianyang City, Panzhihua City, Jiuzhaogou and Guangyuan City.

Railways

Railway plays major role in Sichuan's transport,travel from other provinces to Sichuan is very convenient.Currently, there are five major railways to connect with other cities and provinces:Kunming-Chengdu, Kunming-Neijiang, Chongqing-Chengdu, Dazhou-Chengdu, Baoji-Chengdu, Chongqing-Xiangfan. Besides, it also has Sanwan, Xiaoli, Ziwei, Chengwen, Detian, Guangyue, Panzhihua, Guangwang and Yigong total 9 feeders to cover over the province.

Expressways

In Sichuan, nearly all the provincial expressways take Chengdu as the hub: Dujiangyan-Chengdu, Mianyang-Chengdu, Chengdu - Leshan - Mt. Emei, Chengdu - Ya'an, Sui-Yu, as well as Neijiang - Zigong - Yibin, the main scenic spots are well united together by the expressways. Therefore,expressways are the best transportation means while traveling in Sichuan. Also, the expressways communicate well with the neighboring provinces and cities: Sichuan-Shanxi, Chengdu-Chongqing, the Sichuan-Tibet.

Water

Sichuan has the convenient inland-water communications.The Yangtze River twists through the province and is the main arteries of water traffic . The Yangtze River together with its tributaries constitute a natural water transport network. All year round, steamboats can travel in the downstream section of the Yangtze from Xinshi Town, as well as the Minjiang River from Leshan City, and in the downstream section of the Jialingjiang River from Langzhong City. Leshan, Yibing, and Luzhou Cities are important river ports in the province. It may be a little slower by boat but extremely worthwhile as you can admire the beauty of the landscape from as you travel and absorb the true spirit of Sichuan.

Chengdu Transportation

Chengdu's transportation network is well developed, and Chengdu serves as the starting point for many national highways, with major routes going from Sichuan-Shanxi, Sichuan-Tibet, and Sichuan-Yunnan.

Air Transport

Chengdu is served by the Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport located 16 km southwest of downtown. It has been the busiest airport in Central and Western China and the 6th busiest airport nationwide.

Public Transport

In Chengdu, buses are flat faire and not pricy. The ticket of the common buses is RMB one yuan, and that of those with air conditionings is RMB two yuan. Chengdu Metro seven line subway system has been planned, Line 1 was finished and Line 2 is under construction.

Taxi

The starting fare of Chengdu taxi is adjusted according to the time. 6:00-22:00 is RMB 5 yuan, and 1.4/km; 22:00-6:00 is 6 yuan, and 1.7/km. after the overrun of 7.5km, the passenger must pay 2.1/km.

River Transport

Chengdu has no direct access to the Yangtze River, or any other larger river. However, the port cities of Yibin and Luzhou -- both of which are reachable from Chengdu within hours by expressways.
