Yabuli Holiday Ski Resort

Yabuli Holiday Ski Resort  is one of the four famous ski resorts in the world and also the biggest and the best in China. It is 194 kilometers east of the Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China, and 120 kilometers from Mudanjiang. Yabuli was a hunting ground for the imperial family and the nobility during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The snow conidtions at Yabuli are excellent and the ski season lasts as long as 120 days.

As a Sino-American joint venture, the Yabuli Ski Slope is the the first slope in China that meets international standards. There are 11 runs to satisfy skiers of alll abilities, one cross-country track stretching for 30 kilometers, and three cableways. The five-kilo-meter Number Four slope is the longest alpine ski run in Asia. There are ski jumping platforms, a 90-meter-high alpine skiing platform and an indoor stadium.

Windmill Mountain Villa, built by China International Futures, is located at the resort. The villa occupies 200 hectares and houses a collectioin of wind-mills in styles dating back to the 14th century. There are also villas built to resemble windmills.

Though the snowpack is very dense at Yabuli, temperatures are often quite pleasant. In the summer Yabuli becomes an ideal resort. Autumn is the most romantic season, with flowers in full bloom, the grass turned yellow and the leaves changed to red. Tourists can pick mushrooms in the forest or relax by the river.

Even when there is no snow, tourists still can enjoy an exhilarating schussfahren on a special track imported from Germany. The 2,680-meter track has 48 curves with a height difference of 570 meters and a top speed of 50 kilometers per hour. There is also a golf course, fishing area, firing range and a tennis court.

In Februrary 1996, some of the programs for the third session of the Asia Winter Games were held in Yabui. Yabuli can be reached by train from Harbin or Mudanjiang. A high-grade road runs between Harbin and Yabuli so it only takes two and one-half hours by deluxe coach from the Harbin railway station to the Windmill Mountain Villa. It takes an hour and one-half by bus from Mudanjiang Airport t the villa.
